I've been in more than one Hemisphere, and I wrote a book to help you do it too (or just prepare better for that week long road trip). Going Small, not just for the little guys.
I have read several threads where people have posted about their bikes but have not added their bike info to this one. I will gather the info and post an updated list every few days.

I wonder if it would be possible to contact your local police dept
and ask them to see how many XS's are registered in your state
as long as your not asking any addresss or names
the info really shouldn't be private

I worked for a PI company a while back, doing research in courthouses around the country. Some states, like West Virginia, have public access to registration records, some states are private, and can only be accessed by law enforcement, like for example Pennsylvania. Some of the courthouses in some of the public access states had computer lookups, some had paper filled binders.
Not sure how much cooperation you would get asking a cop for a count of all the XS in the state by accessing the database; also not sure if it is possible to access the database sorting for model type, assuming "XS11" or "XS1100" or "XJ1100" is included in your registration and the state's database.
Mine wouldn't show up, it's registered only as a 1978 Yamaha, so you the only item on my registration that identifies it as an XS11 is the VIN number, again the database might not be 'sortable' for that field.
Can't go by my insurance either, it lists mine as a Yamaha GS 1100!!
